Budget-friendly Kane County Fair opens July 15

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected again this year to enjoy the 141st running of the Kane County Fair and Festival July 15 to 19 in St. Charles.
They will experience a new air-conditioned 50,000 square foot exhibit hall, total blacktopping of the entertainment and eating areas, new and larger areas for exhibitors and new facilities for equestrian competition. New drainage has been installed to handle any inclement weather.

When: Opens daily at noon, July 15 to 19.
Where: The Kane County Fairgrounds are located on Randall Road between routes 64 and 38 in St. Charles.
Cost: Daily admission is $5, while children 5 and younger are admitted free. On opening day, Wednesday, July 15, admission is $1. On Thursday, July 16, admission is free from noon to 4 p.m. for seniors 62 and older; also seniors can ride the carnival rides free with a grandchild.
What else?: Parking is free.

The 2009 fair also aims to easy on the wallet.
"This year's event will be the most family-affordable ever," said fair board president Larry Breon. "Providing a wholesome family event has always been our policy and the current economy intensifies our efforts."
A low $5 admission will give fair-goers continuous free shows, including The Elephant Encounter, Kidbucks game show, Sheer Magic shows, Power Tractor pullers, Go Cart Monster truck rides, Grandpa Cratchet comedy show, Miller petting zoo and stilt walkers.
The daily gate admission also includes live musical entertainment on the Miller Lite Sound Stage. Live appearances include The Buckinghams,...
Nightly main arena shows will feature Motocross champions, International Truck Pull, the Demolition Derby and the Megasaurus. Wild West entertainment includes the TV Champion Bull Riders and the Big Hat Rodeo. Main arena shows require an admission fee.

Visitors can pay a one-price ticket of $20 that includes admission and an unlimited ride arm band. Parking is free.
The county fair is known for its summer fare, as well as its family entertainment -- from the corn dogs, lemonade, grilled burgers and hotdogs to homegrown sweet corn to ice cream. The fairgrounds are located on Randall Road between routes 64 and 38 in St. Charles. The gates open daily at noon.
