Record Crowds for The Buckinghams at the Kane County Fair

CHARLES – Fair officials attributed good weather and bargain entertainment to this year’s record crowds at the Kane County Fair. The fair, which ran from Wednesday to Sunday, attracted 151,975 people, up from 130,000 people last year. “We didn’t have any big storms for the week,” said Floyd Brown, advertising and promotions director for the fair. “The showers we had were short-lived.” The music arena also enjoyed overflow crowds because of bands like American English and The Buckinghams, Brown said. All the thrill shows played to full houses, Brown said, such as Saturday’s rodeo and Sunday’s demolition derby. A record 36,230 people attended opening day, where fair-goers were admitted for the discounted fee of $1. The annual fair will run from today through Sunday at the fairgrounds on Randall Road in St. Charles between Routes 64 and 38. The fair will sport a new look this year with the addition of a new air-conditioned 50,000-square-foot exhibit hall, blacktopping of the entertainment and eating areas, new drainage throughout the grounds and new facilities for equestrian competition and horse care. More than 130,000 people attended the Kane County Fair last year. Admission to the fair is $5 for those ages 5 and older, and parking is free. On opening day, admission is $1, with seniors 62 and older admitted free. The fair will feature a few new attractions this year, including the national champion FMX Extreme Sports motorcycle riders, which will do back flips at 70 feet in the air.
